Biography

Davide Piganzoli was born on 8 July 2002 in Morbegno, Italy. He started with the Pedale Morbegnese club, then rode for Ciclistica Trevigliese and, from 2021, for the Kometa under-23 team. As an under-23 rider he won the Italian time trial championship in 2022 and the Vuelta al Bidasoa that year. He finished fifth at the 2022 Tour de l’Avenir and third in 2023, and was second overall at the 2023 Orlen Nations Grand Prix.

He rode as a stagiaire for the EOLO–Kometa professional team in 2021 and joined it full-time in 2023. The squad was named Team Polti Kometa in 2024 and Team Polti VisitMalta in 2025. In February 2024 he won stage 3 and the overall classification of the Tour of Antalya, and in May he rode his first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia. That year he also finished third at the Giro dell’Emilia and ninth at the Tour de Luxembourg. In 2025 he was second overall at the Route d’Occitanie, where he won the young rider classification, and second overall at O Gran Camiño, and he was third at the GP Industria & Artigianato di Larciano. Team Visma | Lease a Bike signed him in September 2025, and the team’s website lists his contract as running to 2028. The team notes that he had already finished in the top 15 of the Giro d’Italia twice.

His first season with Visma has brought several wins. In June he won the Route d’Occitanie, including stage 3 and the young rider classification. At the Giro d’Italia he rode in support of Jonas Vingegaard and finished eighth overall, with third place on stage 9 to Corno alle Scale. At the Tour de France he was part of the Visma team that won the opening team time trial and finished 14th overall. In September he won the Tour de Luxembourg, taking stage 4 (an individual time trial) and the young rider classification. On 3 October he won the Giro dell’Emilia, and on 10 October he finished 16th at Il Lombardia. ProCyclingStats lists seven wins for him, counting stage wins and overall wins separately, and five of them came in 2026.
