Tom Pidcock Reacts to Tadej Pogačar’s Vuelta Crash
Tom Pidcock has shared a message of support for Tadej Pogačar following the reigning world champion’s dramatic exit from the Vuelta a España 2026 .
Pogačar crashed during Stage 8 while wearing the race leader’s red jersey and was subsequently forced to abandon the Spanish Grand Tour. The Slovenian had been targeting the Vuelta title after already winning the Tour de France earlier this season.
Speaking about the incident, Pidcock expressed his hope that Pogačar makes a full recovery and described the crash as particularly unfortunate.
“I hope Tadej is OK…”
Pidcock also highlighted Pogačar’s importance to professional cycling, describing him as “the patron of our sport” and saying that it was difficult to see him go down.
Pogačar’s Injuries Confirmed
Following the crash, UAE Team Emirates-XRG confirmed that Pogačar had suffered a concussion, a displaced fracture of his left collarbone and a stable C7 cervical fracture, along with multiple abrasions. The team said there was no neurological fallout and that he remained under medical supervision.
The crash ended Pogačar’s attempt to win all three Grand Tours during his career. He had entered La Vuelta as the race favourite and was leading the general classification by 3 minutes and 50 seconds over Enric Mas.
Successful Surgery in Barcelona.
There has since been a positive update regarding Pogačar’s recovery.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG confirmed that the Slovenian underwent successful surgery on his left collarbone in Barcelona. He is expected to remain in hospital for monitoring before continuing his recovery under the supervision of the team’s medical staff.
His participation in the 2026 World Championships remains uncertain, with the September 27 men’s road race in Montréal coming relatively soon after his injury.
