Biography
Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda Hernández is an Ecuadorian climber who rides for Movistar Team. He was born on 2 March 1996 and has been with Movistar since 2025. He should not be confused with his cousin Jefferson Alexander Cepeda, born in 1998, who is also an Ecuadorian professional but rides for EF Education–EasyPost.
Cepeda began his career with Team Ecuador in 2015 and rode for Equipo Bolivia in 2017. In 2018 he won the road race at the South American Games and both the road race and the time trial at the Ecuadorian national championships. He joined the Spanish team Caja Rural–Seguros RGA in 2019, and that year he won the Pan American road race championship and the Vuelta a Navarra. He rode the Vuelta a España for the first time in 2020 and finished 116th, then placed 32nd in 2021.
His biggest stage-race win came in 2024, when he won the Tour of Qinghai Lake overall. That year he also won stage 3 of the Tour du Limousin, was fourth overall at O Gran Camiño, fifth at the Brabantse Pijl and sixth overall at the Vuelta a Burgos. In 2025, his first season with Movistar, he won the Ecuadorian time trial title and finished seventh overall at both the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and O Gran Camiño.
In 2026 he was 15th overall at the Santos Tour Down Under, eighth at the Faun-Ardèche Classic and 27th at Paris–Nice. His best result of the year was seventh overall at the Tour de Romandie, 3 minutes 18 seconds behind the winner, Tadej Pogačar. Ecuadorian press described him as the team’s main reference in that race. In July he made his Tour de France debut and finished 101st, in a Movistar team where his role was to support Cian Uijtdebroeks in the hardest stages.
