Biography
Jay Vine is an Australian road cyclist who rides for UAE Team Emirates XRG. He was born on 16 November 1995 in Townsville, Queensland. He came to professional road racing through indoor cycling: in December 2020 he was due to join the Continental team ARA Pro Racing Sunshine Coast, but after winning the 2020 Zwift Academy programme he received a professional contract with the Belgian ProTeam Alpecin–Fenix for 2021.
He made his Grand Tour debut at the 2021 Vuelta a España and finished 73rd, often riding in breakaways; on stage 14 he crashed into his own team car and still finished third on the summit finish at Pico Villuercas. The team extended his contract by two years. In February 2022 he won the men’s race at the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships. At the 2022 Vuelta he took his first professional wins, on stage 6 at Pico Jano and stage 8 at Collau Fancuaya, and led the mountains classification before crashing out on stage 18.
Vine joined UAE Team Emirates in 2023 and won the Tour Down Under that year. In April 2024 he fractured a cervical and two thoracic vertebrae in a crash at the Itzulia Basque Country. He was back racing four months later and won the mountains classification at the 2024 Vuelta a España, then won gold in the mixed team relay with Australia at the World Championships in Zurich. In 2025 he won stages 6 and 10 of the Vuelta and its mountains classification again, and took silver in the world time trial championship.
In 2026 he won the Australian time trial title and his second Tour Down Under, with a stage win, despite breaking his wrist in a crash on the final stage. A crash on stage 2 of the Giro d’Italia left him with a concussion and a fractured elbow. He did not finish the Vuelta a España and was second at the Chrono des Nations in October. He lives in Andorra with his wife Bre.
