Biography

Isaac del Toro is a Mexican road cyclist who rides for UAE Team Emirates XRG. He was born on 27 November 2003 in Ensenada, Baja California. As a boy he raced mountain bike, cyclo-cross and road, and as a teenager he joined the Mexican development team A.R. Monex. In 2022 he had a serious training crash in San Marino in which he broke his femur and severed an artery; he spent 16 days in hospital and had screws and a metal bar put in his leg.

In 2023 he won the Tour de l’Avenir, the leading stage race for under-23 riders, and became the first Mexican to win it. UAE Team Emirates then signed him on a three-year contract from 2024. In his first weeks as a professional he won stage 2 of the 2024 Tour Down Under, a first WorldTour win for a Mexican rider in 22 years.

At the 2025 Giro d’Italia he started as a support rider. He took the pink jersey after the gravel stage to Siena, the first Mexican to wear it, won stage 17 and the young rider classification, and finished second overall after losing the lead on the Colle delle Finestre. Later that year he won Milano–Torino, the Giro dell’Emilia, the Giro del Veneto and Gran Piemonte, and was fifth at Il Lombardia.

In 2026 he won his first WorldTour stage races: the UAE Tour, Tirreno–Adriatico, where he was the first North American winner, and the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the former Critérium du Dauphiné, which he won on the final day. At his first Tour de France he won stage 2 in Barcelona, the second Mexican to win a Tour stage after Raúl Alcalá. He finished third overall behind his teammate Tadej Pogačar and Remco Evenepoel, the first Mexican on the final podium, and won the young rider classification. He then won the Deutschland Tour and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, and was fifth in the world road race championship.
