Biography

Rune Herregodts is a Belgian road cyclist, born on 27 July 1998 in Aalst. He is 1.81 m tall and weighs 70 kg, according to his team and ProCyclingStats. He joined UAE Team Emirates in 2025, and the team’s official roster confirms him for 2026. Since 28 June 2026 he has been the Belgian road race champion.

Herregodts also raced on the track and won the Belgian individual pursuit title in 2019. As an under-23 he rode for Lotto–Soudal U23 in 2018 and 2019, and for Home Solution–Soenens in 2020, when he won Paris–Tours Espoirs. He turned professional in 2021 with the Belgian ProTeam Sport Vlaanderen–Baloise. In his first season he won the Ronde van Drenthe, his first professional win. In 2022 he won the opening stages of the Vuelta a Andalucía and the Sazka Tour, and was fourth at the Brussels Cycling Classic.

He moved to the WorldTeam Intermarché–Circus–Wanty for 2023 and 2024. In 2023 he was second at the Figueira Champions Classic and sixth overall at the Tour of Norway, and he started his first Grand Tour, the Vuelta a España, which he did not finish. In 2024 he won the ZLM Tour, including its opening time trial. He has also finished on the podium of the Belgian time trial championship, third in 2023 and in 2024.

On his team profile, UAE presents him as a rider for the northern classics and a strong time trialist. In 2026 he started his season in Mallorca, with ninth place at the Trofeo Calvià and fourth in the Trofeo Ses Salines time trial, and he rode the spring classics in Belgium. In June he was fourth in the Belgian time trial championship. Two days later, in Brasschaat, he won the national road race from a three-rider group, ahead of Jonas Rickaert and Fabio Van den Bossche. Belgian and Italian media described the result as a surprise. He finished 34th in the world championship time trial in Montréal on 20 September.
