Biography

Igor Arrieta Lizarraga is a Spanish road cyclist from Navarre, born on 8 December 2002 in Uharte-Arakil. He is 1.82 m tall and weighs 64 kg, according to his team and ProCyclingStats. He is the son of the former professional cyclist José Luis Arrieta. He has ridden for UAE Team Emirates since 2024, and the team’s official roster confirms him for 2026.

As a junior he raced both on the road and in cyclo-cross, and in the 2019–20 season he won the Spanish junior cyclo-cross title. In 2021, riding for the amateur team Lizarte, he won the Spanish under-23 time trial championship and the Volta a Castelló. He turned professional in August 2021 with the Spanish ProTeam Kern Pharma. In February 2022 he finished seventh overall at O Gran Camiño and won its young rider classification.

He moved to UAE Team Emirates for 2024. That year he was tenth in the under-23 road race at the World Championships in Zurich. In 2025 he took his first professional win at the Prueba Villafranca de Ordizia and finished third overall at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, where he also won the young rider classification.

He opened the 2026 season with third place overall at the AlUla Tour in January, and in April he was eighth overall at the Itzulia Basque Country. At the Giro d’Italia he won stage 5, from Praia a Mare to Potenza, on 13 May, his first Grand Tour stage win. He finished the Giro 19th overall and fifth in the young rider classification. In the second half of the year he was fifth in the Spanish road race championship, second at the Clásica de Ordizia, fifth overall at the Tour de Luxembourg and 43rd in the world championship road race.

Arrieta will leave UAE at the end of 2026. Wikipedia and ProCyclingStats both report that he has signed a three-year contract with Lidl–Trek from 2027.
