Biography
Nils Politt is a German road cyclist who rides for UAE Team Emirates XRG. He was born on 6 March 1994 in Cologne and raced as a youth for the local club RV Komet–Delia 09 Köln. He rode for the German Continental team Team Stölting from 2013 to 2015 and won the national under-23 time trial title in 2014 and the under-23 road race title in 2015.
Team Katusha signed him on a two-year contract from 2016, after a period as a stagiaire at the end of 2015. He rode his first Tour de France in 2017. In 2018 he won a stage of the Deutschland Tour and finished second overall. His breakthrough came in 2019: he was second in the Paris–Nice time trial, fifth at the Tour of Flanders and second at Paris–Roubaix, and won silver with Germany in the mixed team relay at the World Championships. He moved to Israel Start-Up Nation for 2020, which had taken over Katusha’s WorldTour licence.
Politt joined Bora–Hansgrohe in 2021. That July he won stage 12 of the Tour de France with a solo attack from a breakaway, about 12 km from the finish, and in August he won the Deutschland Tour with a stage win. In 2022 he won Rund um Köln, his home race, and the German road race title, and rode the Tour for Aleksandr Vlasov, who finished fifth. He became German time trial champion in 2023.
He moved to UAE Team Emirates in 2024 on a three-year contract and was second at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, third at the Tour of Flanders and fourth at Paris–Roubaix in his first spring with the team. He won the German time trial title again in 2024. In 2026 he was ninth at Paris–Roubaix, won a third German time trial title in June, rode the Tour de France for Tadej Pogačar’s winning team and won stage 5 of the Tour of Britain in September.
