Biography

Benoît Cosnefroy is a French road cyclist who joined UAE Team Emirates XRG in 2026. He was born on 17 October 1995 in Cherbourg, in a family keen on cycling: his grandfather organised a race in the Manche department and his father often took him to races. He started competing at the age of eight and took his first win at 16 in the Prix Louis-Cosnefroy, named after his great-great-grandfather. He raced as an under-23 rider for Bricquebec Cotentin and Chambéry Cyclisme Formation.

He turned professional with AG2R La Mondiale in August 2017. Days later he won silver in the under-23 road race at the European Championships, then won the Grand Prix d’Isbergues and the under-23 road race at the World Championships. In 2019 he won five races in France, including the Tour du Limousin and Paris–Camembert, and rode his first Tour de France. In 2020 he won the Grand Prix La Marseillaise and the Étoile de Bessèges, wore the polka dot jersey of the Tour de France for 15 consecutive stages and was second at La Flèche Wallonne.

In 2021 he won his first WorldTour race, the Bretagne Classic, ahead of Julian Alaphilippe, and took bronze at the European Championships. In 2022 he was second at the Amstel Gold Race and the Brabantse Pijl and won the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec with a solo attack in the last two kilometres. In 2024 he won the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes, Paris–Camembert, the Brabantse Pijl and the Grand Prix du Morbihan. He stayed with the AG2R team, later Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, until 2025, when he won the Grand Prix du Morbihan again.

In his first season with UAE Team Emirates he was third at the Brabantse Pijl and the Amstel Gold Race and fourth at La Flèche Wallonne. He won the Grand Prix du Morbihan again, finished second at the Tour de Hongrie and won the Boucles de la Mayenne, each time with a stage win. In September he won the Coppa Sabatini.
