Biography

António Tomas Morgado is a Portuguese road cyclist, born on 28 January 2004 in Caldas da Rainha. ProCyclingStats lists him at 1.80 m and 71 kg. He has ridden for UAE Team Emirates since 2024, and the team’s official roster confirms him for the 2026 season.

Morgado was one of the most successful juniors of his generation. In 2022 he won the Portuguese junior road race and time trial titles, as well as several stage races, including the Giro della Lunigiana. At the 2022 World Championships in Wollongong, Australia, he took silver in the junior road race, beaten in the sprint by Emil Herzog. In 2023 he moved to the American development team Hagens Berman Axeon. That year he won the International Tour of Rhodes, a stage of the Orlen Nations Grand Prix and the Portuguese under-23 time trial title. At the World Championships in Glasgow he again won silver, this time in the under-23 road race.

He joined UAE Team Emirates in 2024 on a four-year contract. In his first spring he finished fifth at the Tour of Flanders, and three weeks later he took his first professional win at the Giro della Romagna. He also won a stage of the Vuelta a Asturias, finished second at Le Samyn and won the first of his Portuguese elite time trial titles. In 2025 he won the Figueira Champions Classic and the Gran Premio Castellón, defended his national time trial title and placed third at the Brabantse Pijl.

His 2026 season began with victory at the Trofeo Calvià in Mallorca on 28 January and second place at the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana two days later. On 14 February he won the Figueira Champions Classic for the second year in a row. In May he started his first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia, and finished 125th overall. At the national championships in Guarda in late June he won the time trial for the third year running and then the road race, riding alone to the finish. It was his first elite road race title. Later in the summer he was third at the Clásica de Ordizia and 19th overall at the Deutschland Tour. He did not finish the world championship road race on 27 September.
