Biography
Primož Roglič is a Slovenian road cyclist who rides for Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe. He was born on 29 October 1989 in Trbovlje and started in ski jumping at the age of ten. He won silver with the Slovenian team at the 2006 junior world championships and gold in 2007. After a crash as a test jumper at Planica in 2007, in which he was not seriously hurt, he kept competing until early 2011 and officially retired from the sport in 2012.
He took up cycling in his early twenties and signed his first professional contract with the Continental team Adria Mobil for 2013. He moved to LottoNL–Jumbo, later Jumbo–Visma, in 2016 and stayed until 2023. He won a time trial stage at the 2016 Giro d’Italia, became the first Slovenian to win a Tour de France stage in 2017, and in 2018 won the Tour of the Basque Country, the Tour de Romandie and the Tour of Slovenia, and finished fourth at the Tour de France.
In 2019 he won the Vuelta a España and became the first Slovenian to win a Grand Tour. In 2020 he led the Tour de France until the penultimate day and finished second to his compatriot Tadej Pogačar, won Liège–Bastogne–Liège and took a second Vuelta. In 2021 he won the Olympic time trial in Tokyo, Slovenia’s first Olympic cycling medal, and his third Vuelta. In 2023 he won the Giro d’Italia, again the first Slovenian to do so.
He joined Bora–Hansgrohe, now Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe, for 2024 and won the Critérium du Dauphiné by eight seconds and a fourth Vuelta, equalling the record. In 2025 he won the Volta a Catalunya, left the Giro d’Italia on stage 16 after several crashes and finished eighth at the Tour de France. He has won five Grand Tours in all and has been named Slovenian Sportsman of the Year in 2019 and 2020.
In 2026 he finished second overall at the Vuelta a España. He also won the European time trial championship and the Slovenian national time trial title, finished third at Milano–Torino and fifth overall at Tirreno–Adriatico, and was eighth at the Tour de Suisse.
