Biography

Florian Lipowitz is a German stage-race rider who rides for Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe. He was born in Laichingen on 21 September 2000 and is classed as a climbing specialist. In 2025 he finished third overall at the Tour de France and won the young rider classification.

Lipowitz came to road cycling from biathlon. He started biathlon at the age of eight, became a German youth champion and went to the Schigymnasium Stams in Austria. Injuries, including a torn cruciate ligament, meant he trained mostly on the bike, and in 2019 he won long-distance cycling events such as the Engadin and Imster marathons. He joined the Continental team Tirol KTM Cycling in 2020. He rode for Bora–hansgrohe as a stagiaire from August 2022 and turned professional with the team in 2023, winning the Czech Tour overall that July.

In 2024 he was third at the Tour de Romandie, won the Sibiu Cycling Tour and finished second in the German road race championship. At the Vuelta a España he helped Primož Roglič to the overall win and finished seventh himself, second in the young rider classification. In 2025 he was second overall at Paris–Nice, third at the Critérium du Dauphiné and third at the Tour de France, winning the young rider classification in all three races.

His 2026 season began with a win in the Trofeo Ses Salines in January, which German Wikipedia describes as a team time trial. In the spring he finished eighth overall at the Volta ao Algarve, third at the Volta a Catalunya, and second at both the Itzulia Basque Country and the Tour de Romandie. In June he won the Tour of Slovenia overall, with the mountains classification and stages 4 and 5. At the Tour de France he started as one of two leaders of the team, alongside Remco Evenepoel. He was fifth on stage 15 and was reported to be fifth overall when he crashed on the descent of the stage 16 time trial. He broke his collarbone and left the race. He returned to racing on 9 September at the Giro della Toscana and finished 47th in the world championship road race on 27 September.
