Biography
Arne Marit is a Belgian sprinter and classics rider who rides for Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe. He was born on 21 January 1999 in Galmaarden and grew up in nearby Vollezele, in the heart of Belgian classics country. Although his name sounds Scandinavian, he and his family are Belgian.
He started cycling at ten or eleven, following his father’s Sunday rides, and counted Tom Boonen as an idol. At 16 he moved to a bigger club. As a junior he won Nokere Koerse in 2017, a race he still names as a favourite. He rode for the Lotto–Soudal under-23 team from 2018 to 2020 and won the Grand Prix Criquielion and a stage of the Vuelta a Navarra in 2019. As a youngster he also enjoyed painting and drawing, and today he likes making latte art.
He turned professional in 2021 with Sport Vlaanderen–Baloise. That October he won the Grand Prix du Morbihan, beating established sprinters such as Bryan Coquard and Elia Viviani, and he also finished seventh at Paris–Tours. From 2023 to 2025 he rode for Intermarché, in 2023 placing fourth at Omloop van het Houtland, sixth at the Grand Prix d’Isbergues and seventh at Paris–Bourges. In 2025 he was third at Omloop van het Houtland, fourth at Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne and third on a stage of the Vuelta a España.
His move to Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe came after Intermarché merged with Lotto. He was left without a place on the combined team and was told at very short notice. The sports director Zak Dempster then offered him a place on the German team, and the signing was announced for the 2026 season. His role there is to prepare sprints for Jordi Meeus and Danny van Poppel and to help team leaders reach the finals of the Belgian classics, with chances of his own when they arise.
He opened his 2026 season with a win in the Trofeo Palma at Challenge Mallorca on 1 February, in his first race for the team. He had been planned as a lead-out rider but took over as the sprinter after a crash in the finale. He was second on stage 1 of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, sixth at the Grand Prix de Denain and second on stage 1 of the Tour of Slovenia, and he won the Oost-Vlaamse Sluitingsprijs in October.
