Tour of Guangxi 2026: Milan Fretin Claims Victory in Chaotic Stage 5 Finish
Stage 5 of the Tour of Guangxi 2026 an intense and dramatic battle from Hechi to Yizhou, covering 170.1 kilometers of challenging rolling terrain. As the race neared its conclusion, the peloton geared up for a high-speed bunch sprint along the wide finishing straight, but chaos struck inside the final kilometer when a major crash disrupted the front of the pack and caught out race leader Paul Magnier.
Amid the confusion and frantic scrambling for position, Belgium's Milan Fretin of Cofidis kept his composure to launch a perfectly timed acceleration. Fretin powered across the line to claim his second victory of the week, displaying exceptional tactical awareness and raw speed.
Norway's Erlend Blikra (Uno-X Mobility) fought hard to secure second place, while Italy's Matteo Moschetti (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) rounded out the podium in third. Behind them, a heavily reduced group crossed with the same time, featuring riders like Joshua Giddings (Lotto Intermarché), Jordi Meeus (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe), and Max Kanter (XDS Astana Team), all finishing locked at +0' 00" in a fiercely contested, crash-marred finale.
