How the race was won

The race has three parts: a flat opening, then a series of circuits with the cobbled La Tisa climb, and a finale that includes the gravel climb of Diesel Farm.

  • 80 km to go: the peloton broke up as the first of four laps of the 12 km La Tisa circuit began. Twenty-one riders formed the front group, and UAE had four of them: McNulty, Filippo Baroncini, Benoît Cosnefroy and Sivakov.
  • About 40 km to go: Charmig had attacked several times. McNulty joined him and the two built a lead of nearly a minute.
  • Penultimate La Tisa climb: the pair were 52 seconds ahead of the peloton, now down to 21 riders, on the way up, and over a minute clear at the top.
  • 18 km to go: Sivakov, Berthet and Hermans left the chasing group, but they were 1:20 behind.
  • 10 km to go: on Diesel Farm, a gravel road of about 1.2 km at an average of 10%, McNulty accelerated and dropped Charmig.
  • Finish: McNulty had about 20 seconds at 6 km to go and extended it to the line. Sivakov passed the other chasers for third.

McNulty told broadcasters that it was special to win in the jersey, and that he wanted a win in it before the end of the year (Cyclingnews). He had been second at the Coppa Agostoni and fifth at Il Lombardia in October.

Why this result matters

  • McNulty won the men’s road race world title in Montréal in September. The Veneto Classic was his first race win since, and it came in the last race of the European road season.
  • It was the final race of the year for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, who finished the season with 78 wins, according to the team.
  • It was also Sivakov’s last race for the team.

McNulty had said earlier that he would end his season with the Giro del Veneto and the Veneto Classic, instead of the CRO Race (Domestique). Read our report on the Giro del Veneto and on the 2026 Il Lombardia.
